Yorke E. Rhodes III is a passionate technologist with broad interests, always drawn to the next new shiny object. He earned a BS in Computer Science from NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. He has worked in industry for over 20 years, in software across large enterprises such as Microsoft and IBM as well as startups in wireless, mobile, digital marketing, and e-commerce. He had a short stint on the client side at Goldman Sachs Investment Bank, building their first wireless internet ingress and advising bankers in wireless, telecom, and media. His perspectives are informed by his experiences as a young software developer, where he witnessed the beginnings of client server databases, the OS/2 demise, clamshell laptops, obscure languages like ada, lisp, and paradox, and the birth of the internet as we know it today. While ignoring bitcoin for many years, his interest was piqued by blockchain during the summer of 2015 with the launch of ethereum. He is currently on his second tour at Microsoft, working on partner and corporate strategy around blockchain and looking at various levers to help mature and accelerate this exciting nascent industry. Yorke is also an Adjunct Professor at NYU in the Master’s of Integrated Marketing and Leadership programs, where he has taught Digital Marketing, E-commerce, and Intrapreneurship and is currently developing a course on the user-centric economy called #OurNextEconomy.
Vice President, Open Learning, MIT
Sanjay Sarma is a professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. He was one of the founders of the Auto-ID Center at MIT, which, along with a number of partner companies and its "spin-off," EPCglobal, developed the technical concepts and standards of modern RFID. He also chaired the Auto-ID Research Council consisting of six labs worldwide, which he helped set up. Today, the suite of standards developed by the Auto-ID Center, commonly referred to as the EPC, is being used by over a thousand companies on five continents. Sanjay serves as chairman of EPCglobal, the worldwide standards body he helped create. Between 2004 and 2006, He took a leave of absence from MIT to found the software company OATSystems, which was acquired by Checkpoint Systems in 2008. He is a consultant and board member at several companies, and also serves as a permanent guest of the board of GS1 and a member of the board of governors of GS1 US.
Sanjay received his Bachelor’s from the Indian Institute of Technology, his Master’s from Carnegie Mellon University, and his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. In between degrees, he worked at Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Aberdeen, UK. Sanjay's Master’s thesis was in the area of operations research, and his PhD was in the area of automation. His current research projects are in the areas of radio frequency
identification, manufacturing, design, and energy, especially applied to energy and transportation. He has over 75 publications in computational geometry, manufacturing, CAD, RFID, signal processing, security, sensors, and automotive systems.

A computer scientist by training, Matt Shorts has spent his whole career tackling platform and device interconnectivity. Originally in the retail space, he designed and implemented exception-based reporting systems for some of the largest retailers in North America at a small startup in the Boston area. Helping expand out new market offerings at Tyco International after being acquired, he led the global Solution Architecture team for a retail intelligence platform. This platform combined technologies such as RFID, visual edge computing, and monitoring & alerting systems to bring real-time decisioning to brick and mortar stores. Currently he heads the Global Product Management and UX teams for EVRYTHNG, bringing digital identities to physical products. He holds a BS from The University of Notre Dame, and a MSIS & MBA from Stevens Institute of Technology.
